Our Story
Co-Pilot Counseling, LLC began in 2003 when Nicki Sherman set out to meet the need for quality mental health counseling close to home in Oak Harbor and surrounding communities. Managing family schedules often involves maintaining multiple home, school, and work schedules; kids participating in sports or arts activities; and squeezing in “quality time” together. Therefore, when the need arises, finding a quality, experienced counselor for you and/or your child tends to remain last on the list of many, many things to do. This results in important needs being unmet. To counteract this, all our counselors offer evening appointments at least once a week.

Co-Pilot strives to focus on demographics that are oftentimes underserved such as strengthening couple’s relationships, supporting younger children through anxiety or depression, helping teenagers gain an understanding of themselves and their next steps in life. Another overlooked service is facilitating the clients' use of insurance. Co-Pilot files insurance claims because we value the working individual's need to utilize their medical insurance which decreases the financial obligation of obtaining quality counseling.

Over the past 22 years, Co-Pilot Counseling has become the practice that provides personalized mentorship for Master’s level counselors putting their cutting-edge clinical skills into action. Under Nicki’s dutiful supervision, interns develop their personal counseling style and reinforces all ethical mandates. Nicki has served as a supervisor and mentor in the mental health field for over 15 years and offers licensure supervision for folks working towards their LPC license in Ohio. Her approach to supervision is collaborative and individualized to each individual's values, strengths, and professional goals.

Emma Jackman, CT
I approach counseling as both a science and a creative process, blending evidence-based practices with the healing power of art and nature. My past experience working with neurodiverse adolescents and adults has strengthened my commitment to providing compassionate, individualized, and strength-based care. I value art-based techniques and the therapeutic benefits of nature to engage in the counseling process while supporting emotional expression and regulation.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and a person-centered framework, allowing me to integrate evidence-based strategies with warmth, collaboration, and respect for each client’s lived experience. I commonly help clients navigate attachment styles, communication, trauma responses, and grief.
